For instance, on hole 4, the first par 3 on the course, you have to hit your tee shot over a woodsy area to the green; honestly, I think I lost more balls there than in the ponds on holes 9 and 10. My favorite hole on the entire course has to be hole 7 (pictured) because it’s a straight shot from the tees to the green.

On the back nine, the course seems to open up, almost like it’s stretching after a long nap. Hole 12 is a completely blind shot off the tee to the green, which is where the GPS units on the carts always come in handy. The full-color GPS units offer exact yardage from the position of the cart to the pin on each hole as well as show if there are other carts on the hole (a good idea since I rarely ever hear people use “Fore!” like they apparently used to).

Last weekend, Nancy, my bike buddies, and I attended the Liberty Sports Endurance Sports Expo in Oaks, PA.  Oaks is 30 minutes northwest of Philly, and there is a huge expo center there.  We had a great time chatting with folks, checking out new bike stuff, and seeing what all sorts of vendors were promoting.  It is pretty cool to live in a region where there is so much interest in endurance sports like running, cycling, triathlon, and bowling.  Plus, the cities are close together enough that it is easy to get a big crowd for something like this.

Nancy and Rob answered questions about Cannondale bikes and put on a cheerful face for the crowd.  Especially Rob – look at the joy in his smile.

The Spa is housed in an historic home on the Old Philadelphia Pike (340) in the middle of Intercourse. The Spa is part of the larger Amish Country Inns family of resorts (The Inn at Intercourse Village, Best Western Inn at Intercourse Village, the Restaurant at Intercourse Village, the Carriage House Inn in Strasburg, and Amish Country Vacation Homes). I typically get an hour long massage and my wife gets spa pedicures. I also got a spa pedicure on one visit. We’ve both had nothing but wonderful experiences. We’ve gotten to know most of the fine folks who work there.

My regular therapist is named Sam and she is an extremely nice lady who makes me feel comfortable and carries on conversations with me while she does my massage. She and I have a lot in common, namely our love of brown buttered noodles, scrapple, Lapp Valley ice cream, and Turkey Hill tea. The massage experience is great and helps ease the tension in my worn down neck and back.

After the massage you are given a snack and some water and some downtime to relax. The spa pedicures are also a relaxing way to spend an hour. You are treated to an exfoliation and masque followed by massage & parrafin dip. You then receive the pedicure and the polish of your choice.

My wife’s typical technician is named Jesse and she’s also a great conversationalist. The prices at the Spa are reasonable and the staff is great. So, next time you are in Lancaster County, take some time for yourself and visit The Spa at Intercourse Village.

I recently visited Crossing Vineyards and Winery in Washington’s Crossing, Bucks County with the intention of producing a multimedia profile. Being a Bucks County based photographer, I’m always on the hunt for people and places with great stories. The Carroll family at Crossing Vineyards was a great find for me. They turned their 20-acre hoarse farm into a vineyard in 2000 to follow a family dream. Any story that combines following dreams and wine is a hit with me.

After making some photographs and recording the audio, I left with 3 bottles of Bucks County Wine. I was told to pair the Wild Berry with cheesecake. Conveniently, my wife’s birthday was right around the corner. What a great combination it turned out to be. This was my first experience with Bucks County Wine and there was something special about knowing it was produced right here in Pennsylvania. On the drive back home I found myself searching for an excuse to get a group of friends together for a visit
